Primal Scream
Beautiful Future
Vinyl Factory

Deluxe isn’t the word for this high-class limited edition of the Scream’s magnificent new pop opus from new venture Vinyl Factory, who take the art-rock crossover to new levels with the ultimate Primals collectors item. Masterminded by the album’s artist Julian House, himself inspired by David Lynch, Videodrome and Italian horror movies, the hand-made box contains the regular album over two heavyweight discs pressed at EMI’s original pressing plant, book of images, movie-style poster and glossy credits. One of the main reasons I’m mentioning this is to announce, like a rooster with his testicles caught in David cameron’s cod-piece, a Major Event aboard the bonus 12-inch, which contains Andrew Weatherall’s cataclysmic Long After The Disco Is Over Mix of ‘Uptown’, the set’s gorgeous ballad [which is also the band’s favourite track]. With its huge bass, battering percussion and all manner of lysergic sonic eruptions spread over ten minutes, this masterpiece harks back to his Screamadelica-era epics. Bobby looms occasionally and the ‘Diana Ross cocaine strings’ rise towards the home stretch by which time the top of the head is a distant memory. Available online from vinylfactory.co.uk.
