Steffie Doms’ debut album has an immediate warmth, thanks mostly to its fuzzy analogue textures and deep Balearic beats. The influence of Detroit and Chicago is palpable, especially in the chord sequences she uses, bringing her close to Inner City’s ‘Big Fun’ on the vocal track ‘Yours’. ‘Arms’, though, uses these influences to excellent effect as it dresses a Mr Fingers-style bass line with a beautifully reflective melody. Elements of house and techno combine here, the riffs straightforward but often memorable – the result being a production that looks both forwards and backwards to enjoyable effect.
