Southport Weekender-Vol 3

It doesn’t seem that long since I reviewed the last Southport CD but here we are again as the nations most musically significant weekend festival has once again has surpassed itself with not two but three first rate mixes for you to get high with. I doubt there’s any better way to start than with Morales excellent remix of Sylvester’s timeless ‘Mighty Real’ but then life just gets better as Dimtri tears his way through a selection of gorgeous Disco on CD 2. Next up is Jazzy B, good to see his name on the bill again, and as you expect its low down, dirty and f***ing funky all the way. Roy Ayres, Maze, James Brown and Hustlers Of Culture’s fierce ‘Flipjack’ all do serious damage. Which then leaves the irrepressible Quentin Harris and his perfect mix of beautiful vocals (see kings Of Tomorrow ‘So Alive’) and exalted rhythms (see his own ‘Shelter Anthem’). Thank God for Southport.
