Balance 013: SOS
EQ Recordings

It’s a case of lucky thirteenth release for EQ Recordings, turning out what could well be the best yet in an already fine ‘Balance’ series. The great achievement of this trio of mixes is the way in which Demi, Desyn Masiello and Omid 16B manage to get them to work really well consecutively, so that a voyage beginning with the outdoor ambience of Omid’s ‘Seagull’ works all the way through to the fired up ‘Shadow’s Movement’ of Michael Cassette, Bastian’s ‘Game Over’ and the Alessi Brothers’ ‘Savin’ The Day’. On the way the SOS team traverse many forms of house – deeper, more experimental, and even a few classics – with Inner City’s ‘Big Fun’ the climax of CD2, following on from Spirit Catcher and Marc Romboy/Stephan Bodzin among others. If you have time the compilation really works well as one complete listen, a surprisingly powerful experience that sums up perfectly the trio’s philosophy on music.
