A heavyweight trio of Barry Ashworth (Dub Pistols),Will Hensel and Martin MY (He of legendary Camden record shop Know How), team up with the talented vocalist TK for their first outing on Functional. ‘Rumblefish’ is a posturing, low down skanking hip hop-esque breaks rumbler. Medicine 8’s relick is an uber infectious bleepy old skool jackin house thang, analogue bouncy pipe bass lines and gurningly 1990s warehouse vibes, (ooh it takes you back this one!). Snareophobe get the hairs tingling on the back of your neck with their lusciously warm blanket of cushioning bass and Middle Eastern chords for a slice of meltingly sophisticated dubstep tinged trip hop. Electro wobble is the order of the day on the Polaroids mix, a kind of spinning top of arpeggiated bass. Jerry C4’s mix is a noisy, stop starting rumbling bass stomper. Some real stand out moments on this quality package.
