Defected presents House Masters Frankie Knuckles – (Defected Records)

I guess this release is as much about establishing The Frankie Knuckles Fund (in partnership with the Elton John Aids Foundation) as it is about celebrating his musical legacy. A statement from Anne Aslett of the Elton John AIDS Foundation reads: “The Elton John AIDS Foundation is honoured to be administering a new Fund in memory of Frankie Knuckles. This fund will support the Foundation’s work with young men of colour around the World, particularly gay men, who are often subject to severe discrimination and abuse and who struggle to get compassionate information and treatment about HIV and AIDS.” And so to the selection of music which captures his key moments across an undoubtedly illustrious and heavily influential career (if that’s actually the right word). From the classic early productions such as his collaboration with Jamie Principle ‘Baby Wants To Ride’ through to his timeless, ‘The Whistle Song’ and latterly his remix for Hercules & Love Affair ‘Blind’ it feels hard to capture the essence of Frankie Knuckles in words. So please BUY this record, don’t steal, and contribute to the memory of one of House music’s originator’s while adding to the future plan.
