At last, a perceptive compilation title; helped in no small part by being on an eponymous label, ‘Random Soul’ gives a great sense of a personal mixtape specially made for mates, put together by grabbing the first thing off the shelf. With the musical mission statement ditched, this attractive assortment benefits from a depth of inclusions fluttering without fluster. Polly Gibbons, Myron, Gimenez-E, Dyanna Fearon and Loose Ends are among the unhurried beeline makers; Lynden David Hall wraps barbed wire comments in velvet, and Reilly, Venus Tribe and Don-E mount tensions on Diggz’ sharp soul scavenge.
