BARGROOVES: THE SPRING COLLECTION MIXED BY ANDY CALDWELL
(SEAMLESS)

Lest they be considered as chill-out material, Groove Armada have gone for the jugular on their fourth album. This is definitely more Notting Hill Carnival than Bar Mambo – though the latter seeps into the consciousness thanks to the boys’ love of a warm, synthesized sound. This makes older school tracks like ‘Save My Soul’ irresistible, but it’s the vocal tracks that win out. Two crackers from Candi Staton – the impassioned ‘Paris’ and the husky ‘Love Sweet Sound’ rub shoulders with the 80s-heavy backing for ex-Sugababe Mutya (‘Out Of Control’). Meanwhile ‘The Girls Say’, the dubby title track and the party-fuelled single ‘Get Down’ do the business elsewhere. Throw the windows open and turn it up!
