Since they took over the reins for the Café Mambo compilation series, Cr2 have done an excellent job, mainly due to Alex Wolfenden’s ability to use some imagination in his choices, which are well blended too. CD1 is pretty exotic on this compilation, starting as it does with Chris Coco’s ‘Albatross’ (which you’ll know from the M&S advert I’m afraid!) but moving through the lovely ‘Sir John’ from White Elephant, the lush Max Essa track ‘Lamma Island, 5 AM’7 and a touch of psychedelia in Sound Of Rum’s ‘Slow Slow’. CD2 is more obviously a ‘build up’ CD, with a bit more beef to its beats, but these include some very sound productions from Pete Gooding & Chris Coco (‘Believe’), Dima Promo (‘Sustain’) and Kevin Yost & Peter Funk, getting ready for the close out with ‘Dreams Of You’. A third CD offers choice cuts in unmixed form, completing a generous and enticing package.
