Fabric royalty Craig Richards steps up for another mix for the label – and enjoys the freedom that his ‘Nothing Special’ moniker allows him. The mix takes a while to get going, with some fairly minimal electronica kicking things off, the beats sparring as tracks from Arne Weinberg, G-Man and Conscious Minds jostle for position. With the introduction of Joel Mull’s ‘Leaving Ground’ everything falls into place, the beats toughen up, and the sound heads for techno territory – and Richards never looks back as he engineers a set that makes a concerted play for the middle of the dark dance floor. Wrapping up with a dark but fulsome set from Johnny Fiasco, Convextion and Maurice Fulton, Richards shows how to pace a mix to perfection, achieving the goal of many a good mix compilation – that once it’s finished, you should just start it all over again.
