The Apollonia trio – Dan Ghenacia, Dyed Soundorom and Shonky – step up to deliver the 70th Fabric compilation, and the chilli pepper on the front cover suggests it’s going to be hot stuff. It isn’t always that way though, for in truth this mix takes a while to get going. Although the trio’s own track ‘Trinidad’ has a good, haunting vocal sample, it’s only really at the kick-in of Mood II Swing & John Ciafone’s chunky house number ‘Ohh’ that this mix really kicks into gear. From then on there is a much stronger feel to the music, and pulling out Phillip Boston’s striking ‘Night Chime’ is a winner, ushering in a strong closing trio from Masomenos / Ark / Cabanne (‘Bronze Septembre’), Grimes Adhesif (‘Fearless Fun’) and Callisto (‘Need Ur Love’). The opening section makes it difficult to fully recommend, but there are some nuggets to be found if you choose to investigate.
