Fabric’s press release is pretty spot on when it describes Move D’s mix as one that ‘displays the length and breadth of what deep house is and can be’. It’s a really good set, hitting the groove running with Roy Davis Jr’s ‘Under Tha Sun’ and the reassuring depth of Liz Torres’ ‘Your Love Is All I Need’, heard here in a very classy dub mix form. Move D – real name David Moufang – is a sympathetic mixer, keeping things moving but letting each track breathe as well. There’s a personal touch too, Moufang including music by some of his friends – with Juju & Jordash’s ‘Loosey Goosey’ especially good, and Smallpeople’s ‘Unke’ nicely woozy. These join other winners from Earl Jeffers (‘The Goose’) and the smooth as silk Dom 877, whose ‘Do It Right’ is a lovely blend of Chicago house and techno. It’s nice to hear a deep house mix that doesn’t retread old ground or sink into plodding complacency – because Move D keeps it vital.
