Love him or hate him, you just can’t ignore Goldie, even though he’s been all over the reality shows in the last year. Thankfully Fabric have taken him back to his first love, drum & bass – and as you’d expect, he turns in a pretty incendiary mix taking us through a wide variety of musical styles and emotions. Probably the best thrills are to be found from the Metalheadz stuff he includes, with Adam F’s ‘Metropolis’, Mutated Forms’ ‘Crowlin’ and Jubei’s ‘Patience VIP’ forming a very strong bond in the middle of the mix. Elsewhere it’s a set of big names past and present, with Fresh, dBridge, Marcus Intalex and Commix cropping up in a selection high on killer and low on filler. This all makes the odd indulgence easy to allow, though ending the mix with ‘Timeless’ proves to be as logical as it is inevitable. Great as a round-up of drum & bass history, but perhaps more importantly strong and impressively vital.
