Tiefschwarz can always be relied upon for a quality mix, and their contribution to an increasingly impressive collection of Watergate compilations is no exception – right from the moment the harp-like sonorities Nicolas Jaar’s take on When Saints Go Machine’s ‘Fail Forever’ make themselves known. It’s a sparkling, spatial start, and the mix grows with spirituality (Julio Bashmore feat. Javeon McCarthy’s ‘Father Father’) and sleaze (Frankie Knuckles’ ‘Baby Wants To Ride’) before Alton M calls us to action with ‘I Like Havin’ You’. From here the house asserts itself, with some real quality from Manuel Tur, the Masters At Work remix of Afro Celt Soundsystem’s ‘Release’, and a classic Romanthony cut to finish with in ‘Rumpshaker’. Expertly paced with vocals to die for, this is one of the best Watergate’s yet – and that’s saying something.
