Bargrooves’ move to Defected seems to have rejuvenated the vocal house imprint, with three CDs here that offer no fewer than forty sun drenched anthems. Though the mixing is a little on the clinical side, the song choice is right on the money, so that CD1 brings recent biggies such as Frankie Knuckles’ remix of Hercules & Love Affair alongside Ashley Beedle remixing The Streets. Junior Jack kicks off CD2 in some style with ‘See You Dancin” and from there it doesn’t look back, the best of the three taking in Black Science Orchestra, Quentin Harris and the joyous piano of Dubtribe Sound System’s ‘Do It Now’. CD3 is ‘After Hours’ and goes that bit deeper, working Kenny Dope’s mix of Lil’ Mo Yin Yang’s ‘Reach’ towards an early hearing of the Shapeshifters’ tribute to ‘Chime’ and an excellent playout from A Hundred Birds. Excellent value for money.
