Cafe Mambo 2008 Mixed By Andy Cato
Defected

It’s turning into a good year for slower Ibiza compilations, and though CD2 of Andy Cato’s visit to the island is faster deep house, it’s the first downtempo set (‘Day’) that makes the biggest impression. Cato brings together some loose elements – J.J. Cale, Grand National, Weekend Players and Mike Monday among them – and makes a wonderfully varied mix, moving between each different style with ease. A dubby version of Finley Quaye’s ‘Even After All’ sounds good, too, after Groove Armada’s own ‘Paris’. The blissful nature of the house on CD2 runs through Sunshine Jones’ ‘Anywhere You Are’, Danny Clark’s ‘Wondrous’ and the closing classic, Last Rhythm’s ‘Last Rhythm’, an ideal complement to the kick back of the first disc.
