The fact that house music is alive and well over in its Windy City birth place was displayed most sublimely on Part One back in January. The second instalment again showcases a mix of new bloods and longer serving players, dispelling any rumours of decline. I was aware of the mighty Gene Hunt way before the name was hijacked for Ashes To Ashes. ‘A Space‘ sees him teaming up with D Griff, he turns on a fountain of fresh, sturdy house with swelling chords and cool piano. Next, label boss Sean Smith’s ‘Left 4 Dead’ hits deep Nu Groove territory with tech fleks in its y-fronts, the subterranean feel continued on South Of Roosevelt’s Rhodes-washed ‘To Be Somebody’. The trusty 303 chomps in on Mel Hammond’s scrabbling ‘Colorflash’, Bryan Bai-ee and Dirty Turk stroke and shimmer on ‘The Yeah Track’, leaving Bruce Ivery from the Chicago Chuck Bros takes it out on a funky disco-flavoured tip with guitar and flute action. Triumphant all round.
