Disco lovers – time to get out the wallet, for this beautifully designed series of four is full of nuggets to tempt DJ and newcomer alike, with its collector-free unmixed format. The pink ‘Disco Ladies’ is a tempting proposition, with Cheryl Lynn’s ‘Shake It Up Tonight’ and Gloria Jones’ ‘Bring On The Love’ two sought after rarities alongside the more familiar numbers from Andrea True Connection and Sister Sledge. The bright orange ‘Classic Disco’ also does the job, with sumptuous ten minute versions of Bombers’ ‘Everybody Get Dancin’, Cerrone’s ‘Look For Love’ and Cheryl Lynn’s ‘Got To Be Real’. Euro Disco, a fetching magenta, is a little more patchy, with Eighth Wonder’s ‘I’m Not Scared’ one of the curiosities on CD2, though points are scored for Silver Convention’s brilliantly descriptive ‘Love In A Sleeper’ and the Change classic ‘Change Of Heart’. Finally the yellow ‘Gay Disco & Hi NRG’ includes a stonker in Kano’s ‘It’s A War’, but, good as Macho’s ‘I’m A Man’ is, it’s questionable as to how many people will want the 17 minute version! That said, there’s enough love and care put into this series to suggest Harmless have already thought of that – so it’s difficult to see even the purists wanting to pass these ones over.
