This could all too easily be dismissed as a soft grained love-in of the deep house variety, with slushy lyrics and over-produced guitar solos. Happily this is way off the mark, as Henri Kohn has come up with a pair of contrasting mixes that bring out different styles of vocal house. CD1 is especially good – titled ‘Big Room Loving’, it sports heavier beats, beefed-up bass lines and lyrics that actually mean something, with the big hitters here Michel Borstlap, Leggz & Femi B and Ian Carey’s remix of Stonebridge’s ‘Close To Heaven’. ‘Sunshine Lovin’, CD2, brings in a dreamier, more Balearic sound but keeps the quality high, as in Kraak & Smaak’s ‘Squeeze Me’, with Ben Westbeech on vocals, and other warm weather winners from Ralf Gum, Sandra Lima and Layers of Sound. Excellent stuff, well worth seeking out even for established vocal house heads.
