Late Night Tales comes of age, its 21st release curated by probably its youngest DJ yet. It’s a good selection of after-party groovers from the Arctic Monkeys drummer, particularly good if you like your hip hop. Mos Def, a Luniz classic, Roots Manuva’s ‘Dreamy Days’ and Ty’s ‘Break The Lock’ are all quality offerings, while an extremely varied selection elsewhere includes Simian Mobile Disco, Minnie Riperton and The Rapture. Meanwhile a bluesy set of references are found explicitly in the music of The Black Keys; less obviously but just as enjoyably from Little Barrie and The Coral. Wierdest of all, though, is Helders’ own contribution, a strange cover of Livin’ Joy’s Dreamer, with squiggly lines and breakbeat making it barely recognisable – but, like the rest of this comp, very entertaining.
