Suite Disappointement
Rebirth

This Italian label was one of last year’s success stories and it seems like they can’t put a foot wrong as they uncork classic after classic. Here’s another as Toronto-born but London-based housemaster Austin Bascomb [aka A:xus, Charlie Brown and Abacus – yes the one on Prescription!] debuts with an absolute gem of a song, featuring Graph Nobel’s classy vocals amidst gorgeous textural layers, muted acid and strings. None other than Pete heller then comes in with one of his totally sympathetic remixes, building subtly to keep attention on the lovely vocal, then cutting loose musically on the warm, atmospheric dub. If that wasn’t enough Frankfurt’s Motorcitysoul then cook up a pulsing, shimmering soundscape with metallic Basic channel riffage and storm cloud atmospherics punctuated by electro-chatter. Toronto’s currently-hot James Teej homes in on the melancholy, melodic vibe with vocal and dub treatments before a handy Reprise rams home just what a great song this is.
