Greg Pidcock – Connected People – (Culprit)

Greg Pidcock’s debut for the label is as assured as it is quality. From the atmospheric pads which open, ‘Connected People’ to the bubbling bassline and array of weird voices the production manages to feel curiously spacey yet remain firmly planted on the dancefloor, all of which climaxes in the heat of white noise during the breakdown. A great set of remixes come with the release too. Tone Depth’s Doctor Prescribed version re-imagines it with smooth fender Rhodes and tribal rhythms in amongst the undulating synth lines, while Gab Rhome lends it sassier percussion and deeper instrumentation. Second track, ‘Rock Is Higher Than Man’ is the more introspective of the two with deep notes accompanied by choppy chords and tripped out vocals all resulting in a richly atmospheric arrangement of sounds. The remix is care of DJ Le Roi who funks up the drums applying a raw edge and attitude that works a treat alongside the fiery synthesizer.
