Pablo del Monte – Rotate – (East Recordings)

British label East Recordings is – much like its name suggests – one that finds a home in one of the capital’s true musical melting pots. The sister label to Brick Lane Recordings, it makes an auspicious start to life here thanks to the work of Paul Whelan aka Pablo del Monte, a producer who’s just making a comeback now, but someone who’s been involved in house music for some time. Anyway, this 2-track offering gets underway thanks to the title offering, Rotate. A real kitchen-sink offering, it features many different sounds and styles, and while it lacks consistency from time-to-time, there’s little doubting that it’s something of a dancefloor destroyer that’ll go down a storm when unleashed in the right place at the right moment. And so it is that we come to ‘Move Your Feet’, which is my own personal pick of the bunch. The sampled vocals are beautifully executed, while the glistening chords that hang behind them help polish off the track with a really refined edge. A real tale of two halves, this is still an EP that’ll leave quite the impression wherever it’s allowed to fully let loose.
