Dan Curtin revisits his mid nineties escapades as Purveyors Of Fine Funk to deliver four impulsive and explosive productions that move beyond the easy reference points to feel notably contemporary. Starting out with the title track ‘How Dark Is Your Deepness’ which has intoxicating bass and haunting synths fight for your attention while combing just the right amount of attitude and sassiness. ‘Tease’ proceeds to do just that with quick fire drums and emotive chords harking back to his original arrangements. ‘Body Close To Mine’ is next with sizzling Acid tweaks, shuffling latin percussion and soulful chords sitting together in spectacular fashion. To finish is ‘Quickdraw’ which as the title implies then ups the tempo with shimmering keys and syncopated bass all sounding inescapably hot on this, no contest, killer release.
