Richard Seaborne – The Reasons Why – Paper Recordings

Richard Seaborne’s debut for Paper is all about attitude. More bitter than sweet in this case. However, the spoken deadpan delivery here certainly demands your attention with its caustic wit offset by melodic slashes as a temporary respite. Musically the percussion fuelled rhythms sit somewhere between early eighties NYC and 2013, and are little short of irresistible – which the Instrumental version neatly testifies to. Remixes come from Flash Atkins who adds a swing to the drums along with a choice fuzzy bassline, the heightened space funk sounds and piano of Sleazy McQueen, and finally the addictive chugging syncopation of the Leon Sweet version. Either way it’s all good. Undoubtedly this is another exciting release from Paper who succulently continue to fuse past influences together with a forward thinking manner.
