Russ Yallop & Waff – Mike The Swamp – (Avotre)

The unstoppable AVOTRE label has secured a coop for its next release: they have got a rare but excellent new EP from Crosstown Rebels DJ and acclaimed house star Russ Yallop. It finds him producing in cahoots with wAFF, a Cocoon and Hot Creations associate, and also in solo mode, where he then gets remixed by another member of this extended family, Luca Cazal. The results are standout and are sure to get plenty of plays on the ‘floors of the world’s best clubs in the coming months. Up first is Mike the Swamp. Whoever Mike is he should be pleased to have such a tune named after him. It’s a real floor filling tech cut with big bold drums that churn and churn. Wobbly percussive patterns and subtle vocals flesh things out, as does a slithering, withered bass line riff. It’s a freaky and fun jam that will make you shake your rump in no time. Next up is a slower, deep cut that is just as charming and singular. It has alien vocals and crisp claps as well as lovely electro styled bass and is a classy jam with cool breakdowns and essential grooviness.
