Ian Brown
Stellify
Polydor

With the Stone Roses 20th anniversary reissue getting a lot of press at the moment, this is a very timely release from the main man and vocalist Ian Brown. ‘Stellify’ reasserts that his solo career is still going from strength to strength, a highly uplifting single that has a confident, up for it vocal with a bit of attitude, a decent loping groove and a killer brassy hook to play out the chorus. In terms of how good this is, it’s easily the best thing he’s done since F.E.A.R., and is likely to appeal from fans of his previous work right through to the Specials. With an album (‘My Way’) to follow in a month or so, the future – dare we say it – is Rosey.
