Name & Relucto
Spawnofspoon EP
Hum & Haw

Fourth release on Alex Smoke’s new label which so far has caused a commotion with each mighty missile making it a definite contender for most promising imprint of the year. Name+Relucto first emerged reworking the label’s stunning maiden voyage, ‘Fool’ by Drama. Their own is a humdinger; dark, snaking, twisted and drenched in vats of acid, both 303 and simple aurally-corrosive nastiness. ‘Longblackcurlyteeth’ clatters along splattered with electronic belches and the occasional burst of demonic flatulence. Alex Cortex’s remix pumps and clanks, sporting a nasty case of 303-with-the-threepenny’s syndrome. Then ‘Blueballs’ unleashes a charging acid-abused monster which doesn’t let up until every bowel in the house is emptied. Then there’s the title track: muffled, dense and malevolent with avant garde pinball motifs and even the odd hiphop exhortation. Not for the squeamish but fresh, different and, ultimately, standing out gloriously from the pack, like every other release on this label.
