Regular readers will know that Mental Overdrive is a firm old fave in these columns. Never short of an idea or unusual angle he now moves from homaging elephantine flatulence to the continent in which he lives. ‘Europa’ nods to the classic Frankfurt techno sound with its deep strings but also injects a gamut of snapshots making for an intoxicating whole. The Of Norway remix is stunning: ten minutes of ebbing, flowing internal melody over a Detroit-minimal groove-lope. If that wasn’t enough, there’s a monstrous bonus track, ‘Fifth Night Of The Galactic Underworld’, which builds on a dark, juddering pulses into a hotwired ‘French Kiss’ trouser-rouser which gets so intense it starts panting like a lust-crazed hound confronted with Sarah Palin’s hairy bottom. Another fine dose from this veteran master of destruction.
