Alan James & Michael Kirkman are Subway, & through Sunday Best, Nuphonic & their own Subway label, they’ve released a steady flow of singles that have caught the public’s imagination, gaining themselves a huge amount of respect & a rather large fan base, which all leads up to Subway’s “Empty Head”, becoming one of this years most anticipated & eagerly awaited debut albums. As soon as the opening “Testing” makes it’s presence felt, you drift back to the world of the R&S offshoot Apollo, but then it also sounds like something brand new, as the soaring emotive pads take you way above the clouds, riding on funky electro rhythms, ascending new highs & lows while your imagination runs riot. The contradicting “Two Tone” pulls you in different directions, as the busy reversed riffs go against the rising synthetic strings, resulting in a track that’s just perfect for Bladerunner Part 2. All in all there’s 10 cuts here that deserve your undivided attention, do yourself a favour & get lost in a copy of Subway’s “Empty Head”. I bet it’s fucking amazing on a strong hallucinogenic.
