Great to see Billie Ray Martin’s distinctive tonsils gracing records again, although in the choice pick here (Slam’s own Return To Mono mix), she’s vocoodered out of all recognition. Still, the boys know exactly what they’re doing, whipping up an electro infused electro/house/techno groove – it could sit quite easily in a techno, electro or house based set – motoring along under a series of bleepy synths, elasticated bass and eerie pads. Superb – and already adorning all the right decks. And, mostly for ‘that’ voice alone, Death In Vegas get the thumbs up for a coolly melodic midtempo mix. Man of the moment Alex Smoke also lends a hand with a fuzzier late night re-work that retains much of the haunting vocals.
