Conceived as a bit of a tribute affair to one of the busiest basslines in recent club memory, Roots Manuva’s “Witness”, this skanking instrumental has gone on to be a surprise hit, gaining the seal of approval from Roots Manuva himself, and featuring on Mr Scruff’s recent Solid Steel mix CD series. Actually, it’s no real surprise, as it’s a lovely frolicking beast of a tune, perfect for getting the dancefloor jumping up and down in unison. Mr Scruff is on hand to lend it a remix, stretching it out and giving it a slightly fuller sound, without losing the loping groove or that bassline, which must be the size of Russia. But he does add a few hysteria inducing breakdowns to liven things up. Watch this fly.
