It’s worth noting that the south of France (Antibes, on the outskirts of Nice, to be precise) has finally produced an original band which is slowly but surely making waves on a global scale (and not just another naff ska outfit with gallic rapping on top). Tormented and yet so fragile Anthony Gonzalez – aka M83 – is a gifted songwriter that wears his sensitivity on his sleeve. One of the highlights of mesmerising third album ‘Before The Dawn Heals Us’, ‘Teen Angst’ makes your body hair stand in a huge sonic splash (picture a juvenile My Bloody Valentine with a dash of Manchester thrown in). There are a couple of linear electro mixes from TA Montag and Luciano but nothing that comes close to the magic of the original. Bonus track ‘Addicted To Mutilation’ is equally superb.
