The respected US label hits its 30th release and commissioned A1 People – Simon Bowring and Tom Crook – to come up with something special. They do indeed, unleashing three examples of their Future Disco hybrid of electro, NYC boogie and sci-fi atmospherics. The title track is another creature from the black lagoon with PiL-style bassline, doomy riffs, morse code blips and orchestral sweeps. ‘Crash’ hits the Prince-Clinton mid-80s wallop-groove with robo vocals and spooky synths. ‘From Detroit’ is a Maggotron-style electro-tickler with chipmunk travelogue. Like Touchin’ Bass, it’s electro but way beyond the stereotype. The spirit is here.
