With all the recent chaos Alloy Mental’s startling debut album slipped through the net so just to say it was a bold, original statement which stood out from the pack with its blend of rock ‘n’ roll sensibility and attack techno. This actually caused a stir as their first single 18 months ago. Now, Belfast trio Martin J. Corrigan, Danny Todd and Phil Kieran, with a bevy of high-profile gigs and the album behind them, have reactivated their theme song with some dynamite remixes. The original plants sinister vocal over Stoogesy guitar chug straight outta ‘Down On The Street’. Now it’s joined by a squelchy live techno version plus Germany’s Alex ‘Boyz Noize’ Ridha giving it electro-shock treatment and the mysterious Burglar Tom sneaking in again with a mad biscuit-tin death rattle for the minimal heads who like their toast well done. Definitely one of the bands of the year.
