Back To Mine with Femme En Fourrure (Sandra & Juuso)

After hours grooving…

Femme En Fourrure (translates to “woman in fur”) make music for DJs, catwalks, nightly promenades and oceanside sexin’. FEF mixes distant styles, creating a delicate blance between the the surreal and safe. In 2013 they released their dark debut album covered in neo-feminist whispers, on Convex Industries, also that year they played selected festivals, including Boiler Room. In the past FEF have worked with wide and multifaceted range of artist and labels, such as Hotflush’s South London Ordnance. Their collaborative track ‘Obsidian’ caught the attention of Marcel Dettmann ending up on his Berlin Session for Red Bull Music Academy. Julio Bashmore included their track ‘Bound’ in his BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix, and on of FEF’s very first track ‘Dirty Blonde’ was charted and powerplayed by Rekid’s Radio Slave. FEF have also been called upon for remix duties on the legendary Chicago based Trax Records.

Juuso
Beastie Boys – “B-Boys Makin’ With The Freak Freak” (Grand Royal, 1994)
Ill Communication is probably my favorite Hiphop album of all time. It combines buddhist chants, hardcore punk, grunge and jazzy double bass sounds, but it still sounds more Hiphop than many others. Or maybe my idea of Hiphop is just very different.

Sandra
The Knife – “Neverland” (Rabid Records, 2006)
The Knife’s music has gone inside my body and mind and will never leave. “Silent Shout” is probably the album i’ve listened to the most in my whole life.

Juuso
Kate Bush – “Hounds Of Love” (EMI, 1985)
The most intense and emotional song I’ve ever heard. Perfect spine-tingling baroque pop.

Sandra
Salem – “Trapdoor” (IAMSOUND Records, 2010)
It’s hard for me to put in to words how much I love this band. Basically their music and overall aesthetics is a combination of all
the things I love the most.

Juuso
The Cure – “A Forest” (Fiction, 1980)
This is my kind of Gothic dark wave. I see music as colors and for some reason I see the colour green during this song. I love the guitar in this. I also love the fact that our friend Pekka Tynkkynens guitars sound a lot like this. At least in my head, at times. He plays guitar in our live setup, on our debut album and on our upcoming music.

Sandra
Wavves – “Beach Goth” (Fat Possum Records, 2009)
I adore the lo-fi aesthetics of wavves’ early stuff. The sort of angst and nonchalance that comes across just allures me.

Juuso
Deee-lite – “What Is Love” (Elektra, 1990)
Lady Miss Kier is such an inspiration. She has a very original and lusty way of singing. It’s still so unbelievable that pop music used to sound like this. Very organic sounding cut & paste dance music. The whole album is great, starting from the name; “World Clique”. Wow.

Juuso
The Prodigy – “Wind It Up” (XL Recordings, 1992)
‘Experience’ is very dear to me. it’s one of the first albums I remember owning. It still sounds as futuristic as during the 90’s, and I still get the same joy and vibe on every listen. I’m not sure what the genre is? Pre-happy hardcore meets jungle? Probably too pop-y and cheesy for real head ravers, but I love it to death.

Sandra
Animal Collective – “In The Flowers” (Domino Records, 2009)
Animal Collective is a kind of a band that jeopardizes my mental health – it simultaneously hits on the both ends of my emotional scale.

Juuso
Dune – “Can’t Stop Raving” (Urban, 1995)
Super melodic and naive, positive energy. An inspiration for sure. The maxi version is very different than the one on the album, though they’re both as great and lovely.

Femme En Fourrure – The Beach (Cocoa Music)
Format: Digital / Vinyl
The journey of Femme En Fourrure continues towards deeper waters along with a new line-up and a renewed touch. The suppressed soundscapes of the June-released convex industries debut album have evolved slightly, reaching for new unknown grounds.
The sources of inspiration include the Baltic Sea area and its birch trees, the Eurovision Song Contest, Anglo-Saxon literature of the Early Middle Ages and Seattle during the 90’s. Originally from Tallinn, Estonia, now residing in New York and releasing music through the prolific 100% Silk record label; Maria Minerva givers her touch of exotic to the release in the form of an eerie cover- remix, marinated with ancient drum machines.
Released 10th Jan 2014
