Back to Mine with Senseless Live

After hours grooving at the best late night sessions in town

Talented duo John Glassey and Kim Sykes, jointly known as Senseless Live, are quickly becoming one of Canada’s newest Dance music phenomenon, exporting their productions to the worldwide electronic music scene. Making waves with their unique Deep House, Techno, Tech House and Chill-Out infused style, the duo have recently received much acclaim for their ‘Ricochet EP’ release and their massive eight-track album ‘Intentions’, which landed multiple Beatport chart placements.
Whilst the tandem is continuously working on new material and preparing for a heavy touring schedule, we’ve decided to have a chat with them and go through the tracks that influenced and shaped their refined musical vision. Here are Senseless Live’s top 10 tracks:

John: Peace Division – Body And Soul
This was a track I loved to play out in the early 2000’s.  I was always a huge Peace Division fan and the dark Tribal sound of this particular record always hooked me.

Kim: Nicolas Jaar – Love You Gotta Lose Again
I could listen to this song over and over again – Nicolas Jaar is brilliant. I love the combination of sexy dynamic soul male vocals with a smooth hypnotic beat.

John: DJ Sneak – Fix My Sink
This track always made me want to dance.  I played it almost every week when I was DJing in Toronto in my early 20’s and it always made the floor come alive. It was just one of those fun House tracks that everyone liked.

Kim: Radiohead – 15 Steps
I’ve always been a Radiohead fan, they are always pushing boundaries and this song is a good example of that – it is both cerebral and visceral. The urgent and intricate drum lines release into a simple but pulling guitar rift. I love Thom Yorke’s lyric and melody lines.

John: Sade – By Your Side (Naked Music Mix)
This is a record I could play over and over – the soulful vocals of Sade and the top-notch production are just amazing. Naked Music was always one of my favourite labels, they only released music once in awhile but it was always pure, quality, deep soulful music.

Kim: Portishead – Glory Box
Everything about this song is poetic and seducing – the full orchestrative strings, the delicate soulful vocal and brilliant melancholic lyric lines. Portishead recorded this track live and the product speaks for itself. Never get tired of listening to this track.

John: M1 – Electronic Funk
This record has been in my bag more than most. I used to play a lot of lounges growing up and this was perfect. I still play it out from time to time – its best mixed with Daft Punk’s ‘Around The World’ to be honest!

Kim: Depeche Mode – Precious
I’ve always admired Martin Gore’s skill in songwriting. I love the dark, bassy synth and complicated layering in the chorus. This song is a ‘newer’ release but still holds true to the DM sound we are all nostalgic about.

John: Robert Miles – Children (Dream Version)
This was the track that made me want to be a producer – I loved the piano pattern in this tune. It’s a little too fast for me nowadays, but when I was younger I was drawn to this and it was in my first record crate that took me a couple years to build.

Kim: Maya Jane Coles ft. Karin Park – Everything
Always amazed by the production quality, every time I listen to Maya Jane. The vocal is very edgy yet melodic.
