Back To MIne with UZZEE

Late night sessions with da main man

Curtis Mayfield – Pusherman

For me this is the birth of rap music, circa 1972. Infectious grooves.

Prince – Purple Rain
My favourite all round artist, at the tip top of his prime (if he’s capable of having one).

Prodigy – Fire Starter
A timeless gem from the English supergroup that helped shape the sound of the 21st century. Raw.

Donald Fagen – Maxine
A wonderful fusion of Jazz, Blues and Soul. The blend of the instruments is magical. Love this song so much that I named one of mine after it.

Metallica – Enter Sandman
One of the songs that drop-kicked me into picking up the guitar.

2pac – Picture Me Rollin
The ultimate rebellious defiant song, with 2Pac emerging victoriously over everyone that tried to keep him down in his past. A very happy song.

Kid Cudi – Heaven At Night
One of the songs on a mixtape, that gave me hope at a time that I really needed it.

Amy Winehouse – In My Bed
Wow… Musical wizard by the Queen herself, and by Salaam Remi, a man who I must work with before the earth stops spinning. RIP Amy.

Milton Nascimento – Chamada
The pure emotion of this song. Its amazing how without having to speak a language, emotion can still be conveyed and understood.

Fela Kuti – Shakara
Next level. A true genius.

With his debut EP ‘Evolution’ set for release on September 1st, London born 22 year old UZZEE is leading the British resurgence with a collection of tracks exploring aspects of his psyche, past, present and future, and aims to break the chain of conformism, which he feels grips the artistic continent. ‘Evolution’ is a no holds barred body of work, documenting UZZEE’s current evolution as an artist, heavily influenced by rock, jazz and world music, his eclectic tastes can be heard throughout the EP. The main production work has been done by young UK producer Jelacee of Stooki Sound, Hawaiian based Mr Carmack and Texan musician Eric Dingus, one half of hip-hop duo Drone. The 8 tracks are somewhat of a combined revelation, the tight instrumentation complimenting UZZEE’s unpretentious yet assured drawl. UZZEE is an avid Rock head and a guitarist, more elements of which will be revealed later this year. UZZEE considers himself an expressionist, believing that we all have a duty to express ourselves through our own thoughts and ideologies.
