Back to Mine with ViLLAGE

After hours grooving with the Romanian born superstar producer…

Stimming – Song for Isabelle
This one is from Stimming’s “Reflections” album released on Diynamic in 2009. Has a lot of detail to it as all of his tracks for that matter.

Py – Lungs
This one’s produced by George Fitzgerald in 2012. Pretty minimalistic track with just a kick drum and synths but that just puts Py’s voice in the spotlight and that’s what I love about this track.

Machinedrum – Come1
From Machinedrum’s “Room(s)” album from 2011. This track pretty much influenced my production style and still is a reference track for me.

Hudson Mohawke – FUSE
From HudMo’s Butter album out on Warp in 2009, this is probably one of his best tunes ever and altho’ this one isn’t as bassy as other tracks from him, it compensates with the crazy pitch shifting melodies and quality sounding percussion.

Maribou State feat Pedestrian – Mask
This one is called Mask, excellent collaboration between the London-based duo and Pedestrian. It’s part of a compilation called “Friends Will Carry You Home Too” that’s released on Catz ‘N Dogz record label – Pet Recordings.

Tinashe – 2 On feat ScHoolBoy Q
Tinashe debuts on RCA with ‘2 On’ with a little help from ScHoolBoy Q. Beat by none other than DJ Mustard, it’s a perfect blend of minimal beats and flow that kinda sends you to Cassie’s Me and U. Tho’ this sounds a bit different from Tinashe’s usual moody, hazy vibes this track goes well in clubs as well as home listening.

Sepalcure – Pencil Pimp
The combined forces of Machinedrum and Braille equal Sepalcure. It features frantic percussion and a soulful vocal that weaves throughout the mix, sometimes prominent, sometimes distant and ghostly. Elements are introduced and explored, sometimes abandoned, giving “Pencil Pimp” a sense of momentum, anchored by shocks of bass.

Missingno – XE2
Sharing the same name with a Pokemon, producer Missigno come up with XE2. Out on the Goon All Stars label, this track takes a more progressive approach featuring vocal cuts from R Kelly’s “I’m a Flirt” and warm emotional synths throughout.

Nosaj Thing x Chance The Rapper – Paranoia
Chance The Rapper teams up with LA based electronic artist Nosaj Thing for a collaborative track called Paranoia part of the YoursTruly’s Songs from Scratch. The end product is a meditation on Chicago teenage violence.

DJ Spinn – Fellin You
Lastly here’s probably Spinn’s greatest track ever in my oppinion. Classic footwork drum patterns and chopped up organ samples with pitched soulful vocals from Alicia Keys on top makes this the perfect after-club/home listening track for me.

ViLLAGE ‘The Touch’ EP
Kitsuné ventures to Eastern Europe and bring back rising talent ViLLAGE and his first EP “The Touch” out on May 5.
The sound of Romania-born producer ViLLAGE is a stirring mash-up of contemplative bass, incisive percussion bits and bobs of footwork, house, Jersey club and cleverly reworked R&B vocals. He first came to the wider world’s attention with breakthrough track “Takeover” back in 2012. Constantly on the move, the beginning of 2014 has brought him official rerubs for the likes of Lana Del Rey and Lily Allen, some of his first shows abroad and his first release on Kitsuné.
For his first release on Kitsuné, ViLLAGE unveils the rousing and efficient “The Touch” which will find its way to clubs and dancefloors around the world.
The track is backed by 4 clubby remixes: famous Spanish producer Henry Saiz, ARME for quite a tropical version, Maxthor who brings a 80’s touch to the song and Lemonick who puts a nervous and intense final touch to the EP.
