Ian Pooley – Souvenirs (Pooled/Ministry)
Ian’s new album is more live sounding than a lot of his earlier sampled based stuff and features more musicians and vocalists than his previous albums. Lots of Latin influences as you’d expect, nothing ground breaking just good summer vibes.
De La Soul – De La Mix Tape (Tommy Boy)
This ones been around a while but someone left it at my house and it’s been great listening to this collection of classics, remixes and rarities from De La Soul.
Morgan Geist – Unclassics (Environ)
New mix cd from Environ Records boss Morgan Geist. Wicked mix of Synth pop, Italo disco and electro funk. The highlight for me being Pluton and Humanoid’s weird electronic disco cut “World Invaders”.
Fat Freddys Drop – Hope (Live Version)
New Zealand’s finest purveyors of funk, jazz, skanking reggae and dub have to be one of the best live bands i’ve seen. This is a live version of their biggest track to date which never leaves my cd player and at 10 minutes long seems too short.
Dj Heather – Fabric (Fabric)
There’s not many house mixes i can listen to at home but Heather always pulls off killer mix cd’s and this is no exception. It features music from Kaskade, D’Julz, Mike Delgado, Joey Youngman and your’s truly.
Freerange Colour Series Blue
Colour Series is a compilation of some of the labels harder to find or deleted material. Includes tracks from Trevor Loveys, Subjekt, Jimpster and Switch. It’s a great mix of deep, soulful, jackin and broken beat house styles that Freerange are known for.
Flash Atkins – Turn off the Music
Flash aka Ben Davis, all round crazy guy and my partner in Del-5 has written a handful of downbeat tracks with Crazy Penis’s Danielle Moore. Not sure what’s happening with them yet but I can guarentee you’ll be hearing them in your local working mens club soon enough.
