Adapter

Naples-based Adapter has experienced a meteoric rise in a career that has spanned multiple years. Releases on some of the genre’s most well-loved labels, including Riva Starr’s Snatch! Records and Green Velvet’s Relief, have cemented his status as one of the scene’s true heavy-hitters. Adapter has just made an exciting solo debut on Hot Creations with ‘Skate Dancer’, adding to an already bustling 2020 with releases on Relief Records, Glasgow Underground and more. The two-track Skate Dancer also includes a special remix from contemporary house heavyweight, Patrick Topping. To mark the release we’re pleased to be speaking with Adapter today!

Adapter, thank you for speaking with us today, it is great to have you with us! To start off, how are you doing at the moment and where are you based currently?

First of all thanks for this interview. I’m working hard on new productions in my studio based in Naples (Italy).

Adapter - Skate Dancer

A huge congrats on the Hot Creations debut. Skate Dancer is a huge party track! Can you tell us a bit about the inspiration behind the track?

I’ve always been a fan of the 80’s and I’ve been trying to find my style for several years. Skate Dancer represents me. It is a search of new sounds mixed with old ones. For example, to create the bass it took me some time but the percussions remember an old song, and the same for the vocal is from Doug Willis – Skate Dancer.

How did the track come to find its home on Hot Creations and what does it mean to you to make your solo debut on the label?

I always had a good relationship with Jamie and I have been sending my tracks to the label for some years. When I sent Skate Dancer to him I felt that I received great feedback, the track is very cool. Indeed I already debuted in 2017 on HC with Mihalis Safras, but this time is better because I’m alone and it’s an amazing feeling to be back on the label in such a way.

The release also features a massive remix from Patrick Topping, what were your first thoughts when you heard his remix?

The first thing I exclaimed, “this is Patrick!”. His Remix is incredible and represents his original style. I first met him in Ibiza 2014 when his track “Forget” came out. Patrick is an amazing producer.

With all circumstances of this year considered, you have managed to keep your music output at a consistent high! Can you tell us a bit about your creative process in the studio?

As I explained earlier, I’m always looking for new sounds to mix with old ones. I do careful research on the vocal to use and then combine it with more sounds. I am a pianist and percussionist and I never try to copy a style but to create my own original one.

Who are some of your greatest musical influences?

All pop, rock and funky music of the 70s / 80s / 90s. To name a few, Michael Jackson, Pink Floyd, Stevie Wonder, Queen, Prince, James Brown and many more …

Recently in our interviews we have attempted to draw attention to the scene and the importance of protecting it in these uncertain times. As a DJ and producer who has been dedicated to the scene for many years now, what does nightlife culture and the underground music industry mean to you?

There would be another interview to talk about this. The current situation is really unfair and seeing artists make streaming and playing alone, is really sad. Music industry needs support. Music for us and for the people is a moment of joy, fun and happiness. We can’t live without a club, disco, festival, concert and I hope this situation ends soon and we get back together!

Thanks again for chatting with us today Adapter! Congrats again on the release of Skate Dancer and we wish you the best for the rest of the year. To round off, is there anything else coming up from yourself that you’d like to share with us?

Thanks for this interview. I hope to make others and I hope you like the track and the next ones that will come out in these months. Thanks for support and long life to music. Ciao!
