LA SANTA

As the weather begins to get warmer, DMCWORLD decided it was the perfect time to check in a rising star who is hot hot hot right now! Welcome to the world of Madrid producer La Santa, a new face on Stereo Productions and partner with Dj Chus in her new label Redolent. World get ready…

Hi La Santa, how are you? Where do we find you?

Hi! Very good and you? So happy to be today with you. Right now I am at my studio working on the next radio show for Redolent.

Can you introduce yourself and your music to our readers?

I am La Santa from Madrid, Spain and I am very happy to share a little bit of me with all of you. My music is what I feel in every moment, either at the studio or in a club. What I try to transmit thru my music is my energy and my roots, a feeling that will mean something to the listener. I describe my music as sensitive, sensual, ethnic and with melodies that will take you into a journey. At least that’s what I try to transmit! LOL

Would you say that your sound has experienced an evolution during the last years? If so, how?

Answering no wouldn’t be true cause I think we are in constant evolution and that is represented in my music too. However, my foundations are still the same: Jazz, Soul, World Music, House Music, and are sometimes represented in a different way and sometimes not. For instance, now I am in a more melodic ethnic vibe with tribal sounds (back to the roots).

We know that imagination and connection with the senses have a key role in your music. Why is that so important for you?

YES! I think that the best way to really share yourself with anyone is to be connected with yourself, to be as true as possible, and the senses are a great gate to this, giving you the sensitivity to get to know what energy people should receive from you, what song you play and so on. Djing it’s all about connecting with your audience and you can do so thru music, aromas, visuals…the more things someone can relate to you and your music, the bigger impact you’ll have on them.

How did your relationship with electronic music start? Who were the first artists that truly influenced you?

It started when I was around 11-12 years old (damn 27 years ago! lol) when travelling to places like London opened me to another world. The music I was able to get my hands on was amazing, we didn’t have such a selection and variety. So every time I would travel with my mum I drove her into all kinds of music stores looking for real gems and at the same time discovering new sounds, artists, labels…If we are talking “electronic” artists, I will say all the “soulful-house club” where we could find Jocelyn Brown, David Morales, Masters at work, Frankie Knuckles, Roisin Murphy…and if we are talking “general” artists, Sade, Erykah BaduMadonna, Michael Jackson

Have your influences changed since then?

Nope! lol but I have discovered new artists that have influenced me at some particular moments such as Maria Gadú.

Which has been your latest music discovery?

I love Cleo Sol! Her voice and vibe is amazing!

”Malik Arya Kala” is your most recent release and your debut on Stereo Productions. It is also a collaboration with Blueheist. How was the experience? What do you enjoy the most about collaborating?

Yes, it was a great release to debut on such a great label. I loved working with Blueheist, he is very easy working with. I really enjoy collaborating as it gives an extra “something” to your own production process, it can take you ways, sounds where maybe without the energy and input of the other one you won’t be able to get to. It takes you out of your comfort zone and makes you explore new sounds. However, I recommend not to force any collaboration, if you feel it and it flows, do it, if not forget it.

Do you have a dream collaboration that you’d love to achieve?

I would love to collaborate with Sade, that would be a dream come true!

Recently you’ve presented your own label alongside CHUS: Redolent Music. Besides being a label, it is also an events promoter, a management agency… How would you describe its philosophy?

YES! So happy we can share this project with the world! Redolent is an independent record label, event producer, management agency, and lifestyle concept catered to the evolving music industry and the development of emerging talent. Redolent represents a multi-cultural and eclectic group of artists from all over the world. Our idea revolves around creating not just your traditional dance floor experience but rather a unique concept that stimulates all the senses. Get ready cause we are coming to you!

Why did you choose “Destiny” by Rosewall – Shyam P. and “Eternal Roots” by Safar (FR) as your first releases? And, what can we expect from it in the future?

We wanted to start with an impacting vocal that will show the beginning of our journey with this project, followed by those captivating and sensitive melodies with Eternal Roots.  Every release shows where Redolent can go, there is no limitation so you can expect everything and be surprised with of course one common thing always: quality and getting to people’s hearts.

Tell us a little bit about your production workflow. What kind of software and hardware do you use? Do you have a piece in your studio without which you couldn’t live?

I work with Ableton Live and with my Apollo Twin sound card which I love! Regarding my work flow I don’t have anything in particular, I just open Live whenever I feel something is going on inside me which can be led from having had an amazing meal, listening to a song in the car, anything that moves me. I couldn’t live without my Kombucha! lol, it makes me focus and gives me the power!

And lastly, what can you tell us about your upcoming projects? Any new release, performance…?

I have some amazing releases coming up in the following months! Some collaborations and others my own, different styles but with my energy and essence. About performances I have been receiving some proposals lately and are working on them and hopefully if we can start playing you will have news soon! Also, watch out for our upcoming releases on Redolent

Thank you so much for sharing these moments with me and getting to know me a little bit more.
