Off Night are an exciting young Ukrainian duo from Kiev who focus on spellbinding melodic music, with classy vocals sewn in and added for good measure. The results have proved excellent, and they are an artist we are sure to keep an eye out for throughout 2021. We chatted to them over the phone recently to find out more…

Tell us about yourselves and when and where you both met?
Hello! We first met a long time ago, about 6 years ago and worked together in one of the clubs in Kiev. We were playing a lot together and therefore, we decided to combine our efforts, started making music together and in 2020 created a project OFF NIGHT.
What is the scene in Ukraine like, what type of events, artists, labels do you recommend from there?
The electronic scene in Ukraine is very developed and we are happy to be a part of it. We have a lot of different events for different tastes, Ostrov, White Nights, The Room, Brave Factory, Closer … also a lot of world-class artists and very good producers & DJs like ARTBAT, Woo York, 8Kays, The Organism, Nastia and many others. Labels are also developing and gaining momentum, we can recommend Eleatics Records, as well as our label De Sad Secret on which our first releases will be out!
How have you dealt with the pandemic, what’s it been like?
As for many DJs worldwide the part of our life with Gigs was cut, so we focused more on producing music, and soon you will hear the results!
Did you learn anything about yourself, pick up new skills?
We definitely got some new skills during lockdown. like cooking and playing video games but most of the time for sure was music!
What are the key things to get right for you when making a tune?
The main secret is to make a sustained not oversaturated track with a swinging groove and an interesting melody. Both components are important for us, and for sure we love to work with vocalists, like we did with Robert Owens, and also we have an upcoming collab with super talented Elly Ball from Canada.
Who does what? Does each of you have your own sound that you bring?
We work together all the time, but Oleg is more the «groove guy» and Max is responsible for melodic parts and mixing.
Also are you similarly or different in terms of personality and taste?
We are completely different people both in character and temperament but we share the same taste of music and look in the same direction, which we think is the key to success for a music duo.
Do you collect gear, hardware or software? Do the tools matter?
We work in the box, using some external analog synths, and we do analog mixing. The key to success is not the tools but the ideas, these we have full analog in our hearts!
What is your favourite type of party to play and what’s the best set time for your sound?
We like different parties from big raves to small chamber parties, we cannot single out which we like more. It seems to us that our sound will fit any time of the party, as we often play at different times and always play our tracks and they work great.
What have you got coming up?
First we have our upcoming release ‘Suspended In Air’ on De Sad Secret. Then we have amazing remixes for ‘Suspended in Air’ made by German producers Sascha Braemer & Oliver Schories. The release of them will be out 30 April and believe us it’s a BOMB! Also we work on new tracks, our management is in contact with some key labels, so soon you will hear more and more of our music!
