Summer Love Festival with Terry Francis

Terry the long standing fabric resident will perform at Summer Love Festival, a 12 hours of boutique atmospheres and intimate crowds, cultured house, acid and techno from across the ages. A stunning leafy setting that harks back to the golden era of rave. The main Summer Love Arena will echo the legendary M25 orbital raves of 1988/89. Strictly non commercial and totally definitive, it will be unlike any other Old School event or festival because of its authentic line up of DJs from the first wave of Acid House and Techno Culture. These are the DJs and artists who created the London scene in 1987/88/89 and are responsible for starting the first wave of underground electronic music that was formative of the dance music culture the world enjoys today.

Hello Terry! A pleasure having you with us today. You have been playing for Fabric from a long time now! How does it feel to be such a rooted resident?

It’s amazing having such a great club’s support  for so long. Letting me have the musical freedom to do what I want, it remains a ground breaking club with great acts every week. Long may it continue.

Do you feel like in the past year you have been spending more or less time involved with music due to being in lockdown?

Probably more time on music because I’ve had the time spare to work on projects I’ve wanted to do for ages. I’ve completed a concept album which is influenced by the music I’ve grown up on – funk, dub, soul, electro etc which is coming out on Where Are You Records at the end of summer. I’ve started up a label Where Are You Records in lockdown with Carolin Geys, a digital artist based in LA . And released 2 EPs on the label as well as doing numerous remixes including Jay Tripwire, Jake Beautyman, Crispin Jay Glover and EBE.

Do you feel like anything in your creation process has changed in the last period?

I guess I’ve got faster at Logic again because I’ve been using it so much. You can get a bit rusty not using it so much.

It’s been so long since all of us have danced in a crowded, sweaty club. How are you feeling about clubs reopening this month?

It will seem a little strange getting back into clubs but I can’t wait. I’ve had both of my jabs so not much to worry about. I’m gagging to play for a crowd. I’ve really missed the response and reaction from the crowd. I’ve also missed traveling too.

Is there any specific club you are looking forward to playing to? And if so, why is that?

Obviously I’ve got to say fabric. In the 23 years I’ve played there I’ve never had this long not playing in there, even when they had their license revoked, so it’ll be lovely to get in the both and on the sound system and play some music again.

You are an expected appearance at Summer Love festival this year. Are you excited to be playing along such legends of the old days?

Yeah it’ll be great to play with these guys. I’ve played with some of the guys quite a lot over the years and others I’ve pretty much grown up with their music and have so much respect for them as artists and DJs.

Is there any artist you are looking forward to see perform at the festival?
l’ll try get around as many as l can.

You also have your own imprint, Eye 4 Sound. How has that been working out for you lately? Any upcoming releases we should be excited about?

It’s something I intend to spend more time on but it’s been put on the back burner for now. I did release a 4 track on it a few years ago but it was the first digital release I’d done and discovered it a whole different ball game than vinyl, so something I’ll come back to in the future when the time’s right.

Considering many artists have been lacking inspiration due to what happened in the last period, do you have any advice you would like to give to new thriving artists from the industry?
I would say do your own thing. Everyone gets inspiration from different things but make it your own and don’t clone other people’s production. A lot of tracks sound similar these days.

Lastly, is there anything else you would like to share with us?

l have a remix of Jake Beautyman thats out on digital 26th July and vinyl soon after. Then my album is out the end of summer on Where Are You Records.
