Albin Myers

The Swedish superstar creating mosh pits out there with his new tune The Beast

Welcome back to DMCWORLD towers dude – and what a way to come back, a new track ‘The Beast’ coming out on Tiësto’s label…talk us through the tune…

“Well I just wanted to make something with a twist. It’s hard these days to try and make something that stands out, so I looked back at my old record collection for inspiration. Some of my biggest influences has always been The Prodigy and the Chemical Brothers. The raw energy that they manage to have with their music and performance is amazing. So instead of making the typical chill out break down that I usually do, I did the whole funky slap bass and sampled drum loops. It was a bit of a risk since the audience not often hear that kind of style in my sets. At first people stopped moving wondering “what is this?” but by the end of the break people get it and dance like crazy! It has started one or two mosh pits during my sets haha!”

How many tunes are you sitting on ready for release in 2012?

“There are some tracks in progress. Some collabs with interesting acts. TBA soon!”

So how has the summer been for you, where have been the stand out shows so far?

“The summer has been great so far. People in Sweden are really starting to get the hang of this now. House festivals popping up all over the country in places you never could imagine. One of the craziest shows to date was 3 weeks ago at the Peace & Love Festival in Borlänge, Sweden. The crowd was jumping up and down for 2 hours straight! I have never seen such a dedicated crowd before! You can see bits of that show in the teaser for “The Beast”. There were at least 40 mosh pits happening during the show. Good to mention though is that no one got harmed haha.”

A splendid looking party at Avicii’s residency at Ushuaia in a couple of weeks, looking forward to this little party?

“Yes that little party will be fun. Not only me, but Cazzette and Steve Aoki are also playing that day so I know it will be a massive party!”

Why do you think Ibiza year after year remains the number one party destination in the world?

“I think everybody has always seen the island as a free haven of some sort. Go over for a week, party 24/7 and forget the problems in their everyday lives. Right now it’s become more of a trend than it was 10 years ago, but Ibiza will always be Ibiza.”

You are appearing at Creamfields in Liverpool in August, what is your best ever festival memory?

“Once again, a festival in Sweden called Summerburst. It was then I really saw how people have embraced what I do. I’ve been doing music for such a long time and all of a sudden people know your music. It happened fast and I’m loving it!”

Your mohican hairstyle is now as infamous as the Deadmau5 mask, the 2 Bears outfits and the DJs From Mars cardboard boxes. Is this the only time you have sported such a wild look?

“I’ve had it for such long time now way before my career started and I’ll probably have it for several years to come. But I have found the perfect length now. I can ride in cars and airplanes without hitting the ceiling haha.”

“Spandau Ballet – Gold. Admit it, that is a great record.”

What is the strangest request you have ever had from a fan whilst DJing?

“Do you have spottily?”

What night out this year have you been the most drunk and who were you with?

“It was after a festival with my girlfriend and the Swedish electro guys from F.O.O.L. It was at the end of three days of playing at different shows and dehydration…”

“It looks like I’m gonna be in India at New Years but not quite sure yet.”
