A classically trained jazz musician, producer, DJ, remixer, songwriter, co-founder of the iCulture brand and Duffnote, One51, Guess Record labels, Richard Earnshaw has been nothing short of prolific when it comes to output. Under his various collaborations and pseudonyms, notably Spiritchaser, One51 and Inner Spirit, Richard has co-written, produced and remixed some of the industry’s great icons. As his fantastic Inner Spirit remix of Zoey Jones’ We Had A Love’ drops on Love Struck Records, DMCWorld goes back to mine.
Zoey Jones – We Had A Love (Inner Spirit Remix)
Dipping into a deeper drawer on this remix, I wanted to wrap Zoey’s vocals in something that was equally at home being played in a club room or poolside. Still maintaining the soulful influences but packaged up in much heavier drum/percussion programming.
Swoof – Tidal (Tim Green Remix)
A big fan of Tim Green (and the catalogue of All Day I Dream), this particular record really draws you in before opening up into the gorgeous piano break. It’s warmth, tone and less than conventional rhythm/phrasing.
Spiritchaser – The Dreams We Have (REM Mix)
One of my many creative outlets, and a collaboration that spans over 20 years now, this particular track although situated later on in our discography, captures the essence of why we compose the music we do. A provocateur of our imaginations.
Leftfield – Melt
Included in what is in my humble opinion, probably the greatest electronic album ever created. And whilst there are more obvious notable successes on this LP, this particular track takes me back to my own ‘back to mine’ memories from the mid 90s.
Claude Debussy – Claire De Lune
One of the most beautiful piano compositions, not just to listen to but also to play.
Quart – Inspiration (Inner Spirit Remix)
This had to go in because it was the time my ‘Inner Spirit’ made an appearance. The original parts were gorgeous so I undertook this remix with an open mind, not thinking about it having to sound like me or my other me. So by the time I’d finished it, I couldn’t really place it and so Inner Spirit was born.
Pépé Bradock – Deep Burnt
Can you even have anyone back to yours and not play this record?! Adored by many and one of the finest Deep House records ever created.
William Orbit – Water From A Vine Leaf
Taken from Orbit’s “Strange Cargo III” album, this takes me right back to 1993 when I started my music studies at Goldsmiths College (University of London) and such an exciting period for electronic music.
SG Lewis – Shivers ft. JP Cooper
This was the first track that drew my attention to SG Lewis back in 2015. Again probably because the haunting piano but also a beautiful vocal/song. He’s gone on to do quite well! 😉
St. Germain – Real Blues (Atjazz Stay Tuned Remix)
Rarely do I DJ or compile a playlist without an Atjazz record appearing somewhere. Difficult to pluck out a favourite production as he so many to his name but this one has never left the USB stick. Sucks you right in!
