Back To Mine With Jepe

Originally hailing from Portugal, but currently residing in Berlin, Jepe has built a solid resume of music. As his discography continues to grow, you can only expect this new rising star to have a promising future. With bright releases on Diynamic, Moodmusic, Multinotes, Aeon and Engraved Ltd, he is one of the busiest names on the scene. As his remixes of Madrid De Los Austrias ‘Elele’ drop on Stripped Down, DMCWorld goes back to mine with Jepe.

Jardim Zoologico – Lena d’água

I remember first listening this when I was 7 or 8 years old. Electronic, new wave synth pop from the golden years of Portuguese Music. This is a timeless record which is still a special part of my DJ sets.

Rinder & Lewis – Warriors (Album)

When we speak about Disco, there are tons of names people remember, but Rinder & Lewis are often forgotten. During a short career, they made a couple of great albums and this one is absolutely magic.

Charanjit Singh – Ten Ragas To A Disco Beat

How cool is it to move to Berlin in 2013 only to discover this whole album from 1982? Pure Acid House from India. Roland TB 303 and TR 808 from Bollywood straight to the modern dancefloor. Probably the first Acid House record, even ahead of the acid house movement. Unbelievable.

Pepe Bradock – Deep Burnt

Memories, memories and more memories. This may be the definition of deep house, a timeless house music masterpiece.

The Persuader – Slussen (Go Dub Mix By Erot)

When I was finally convinced that I was a DJ and deep house was my thing I collected a bunch of releases from Svek Records, Paper Records, and Glasgow Underground. This track is a masterpiece from Jesper Dalback with a sublime remix by a producer called Erot, who sadly died while he was still young.

Paco de Lucia – Aldi Meola

This one, particularly the Friday night in San Francisco concert, was one of the first CDs my parents bought in the mid 80s. They played it over and over. Still today, it’s the best of the best and a pleasure to see and hear.

Arthur Russell – This Is How We Walk On The Moon

I used to dig and dig in record stores and when I found Arthur Russel an entirely new world opened up for me. He mixes all sorts of genres from electronic, to Neo Jazz, Classical and more. I had heard of Loose Joints before, but it wasn’t until years later I found out that Arthur was actually part of Loose Joints. I ended up producing an edit of it so I could play it in sets it which has gone on to spread around the world.

Loose Joints – Is It All Over My Face [Larry Levan Remix]

New York from a distant era. I wish I could’ve been there to experience it! This is what happens when disco meets house, through Arthur Russell and Steve D’Acquisto via Larry Levan.

Goldie – Sea Of Tears

And suddenly…. There was Drum and Bass and Jungle, with Roni Size and Goldie and The Prodigy album. I am not sure how I first heard about Drum and Bass, it was probably through NME mag or DJ Mag. Before DJing, I had a radio show where I was showcasing different and new music and when I heard this stuff it sounded so fresh! For me personally, 1994/ 1995 was also a transformative year where I made a definite move towards electronic music.

Kyoto Jazz Massive – Substream

Compost Records at its best. One of my favourite labels that showcases everything around Nu- jazz, Soul, Deephouse. I was (and am) still a big Compost Records fan and I actually had the luck to release a couple of vinyls through them with my old project. The two brothers still make the best Crossover Jazz today.
