Ibiza 2012 Special

What is your favourite memory of Ibiza 2012?

“It has to be my residency at La Troya because it’s a big glamorous club full of clubber’s and transvestite freaks which is my idea of heaven! Lol!”

Tune of the summer?

“‘Latin Fever’ by Wolfgang Gartner followed closely by ‘Over Me’ by Sharam Jay.”

Most overplayed record of the summer?

“I don’t notice these things as I’m vegan and avoid cheese!”

Favourite resident DJ on the island?

“The friendly ones. Not those who stand behind you with their arms folded giving you evils!”

Why is Ibiza still the best party location in the world?

“Well, you can have all types of experiences in Ibiza but these days I go for more family style trips. I have done the madness and now I get to enjoy the peace and beauty of Ibiza!”

Ibiza is now split straight down the middle with serious DJs spinning quality house and techno on one side, and DJs playing the big room bangers on the other. Discuss…

“I think for certain DJs like Sasha and Carl Cox who have a big reputation and a stylised sound, it’s pretty straight forward. For anyone starting out or without that history it’s quite hard to please everyone so my suggestion is don’t try. Play what you love. Period. I always have.”

What new party caused the biggest splash in their debut summer this year? And why?

“It was all about Amnesia for me. They get it right and have done for years. Pure class!”

Favourite restaurant and beach in Ibiza?

“Passion Cafe in Playa Den Bossa. The waitress’s can be quite sullen at times but they do great salads and raw food.”

Do you think the 123 Rocktronic Festival that featured the likes of Lenny Kravitz, Elton John, Sting, David Guetta and Tiesto this year is an important addition to the Ibiza summer, or do you think it is a case of one too many party on an already bulging season?

“No. It’s just another event in my opinion and it caters for a certain type of crowd so that’s cool. I did a live gig in Ibiza last year with Mark Ronson and it was great fun. Culture Club in Ibiza might be cool!”

What is the one record that will always remind you of Ibiza…?

“Jesus on The Payroll by The Thrashing Doves. I think Danny Rampling had the only copy!”

Best venue in Ibiza and why?

“A toss up between Amnesia and Space for me. Both big clubs but somehow they really work.’

A lot of money has been spent on the island in recent years improving things, what do you think is the biggest improvement on the island?

“Oh god yes. I feel welcome now when I land in Ibiza. They have certainly embraced the clubbing culture. And the roads are much better. I love the new Ibiza.”

What nationality are the craziest people on the dancefloor?

“I still think the Brits are the most responsive but followed closely by the Italians.”

Breakthrough artist of 2012?

“Hollie Cook. Self titled debut reggae album from the daughter of Sex Pistols drummer Paul Cook. Produced by Prince Fatty and as authentic as rice & peas in Kingston!”

If you had to pick one person to go out clubbing with in Ibiza, who would it be?

“Christine Bateman, my make up artist because she gets so drunk and reminds me why I don’t drink. And she is a brilliant girl and can rock a turban.”

And finally, tell us about your first trip to the white isle…

“I first went in 87 with Jeremy Healy and we had a blast. We were hanging out with this actress from Dynasty called Tracy Scroggins who was super glamorous and getting loads of attention. I remember going to Amnesia when it had no roof and it was just amazing dancing under the stars!”
