Forget Balotelli and Marchisio – this is the real Italian dream team. Bassline

Interview : Dan Prince

Guys welcome back to DMCWORLD! A massive night in Ibiza last night with David Guetta and his F*** ME I’M FAMOUS! night at Pacha ripping it up with yourselves and Showtek. How was it?

“As usual to play at FMIF was amazing, there is a big energy and they jump all the time, it’s crazy to be there for all the summer.”

Your residency at Pacha must be one of the highlights of your summers, how much time do you get on the island to enjoy it’s restaurants and beaches? Where do you like to hang out?

“Usually we go straight to the Mambo from the airport, and then into the club. But when we have free time we love to go out for dinner, the best restaurant on the island for us is Sa Capella, we love to have some great meat there, fantastic!”

Playing the sunset set at Mambo is one of the island’s true privileges…what is the perfect record to spin as the sun hits the sea at 9.30pm?

“We usually start with some nice and groovy house music at 9.30, we try to do a different sound at Mambo, more in an old house music style, keeping the vibe high. One of our favorite lately is a Lexa Hill track, ‘I Just Called To Say I Love You’ in a deep’n’groovin style.”

Well congratulations, you have done it again! You have ensued one nation under a groove thanks to another quality track, this time teaming up with Nari & Milani to create a supergroup of Italian producers to bring us ‘Big Love To The Bass’. Nice melodies, cool drop and the bass! Talk us through the history of the making of the tune…

“Trust me, this time was really easy to do! We spoke on the phone with Maurizio Nari and we just told him…“Maurizio we do the breakdown and you do the drop“, after 2 days we met and we finished it in a couple of days.”

What was the actual production process involve, surely you weren’t all housed up together?

“We have a meeting every morning in the studio and then we start our job planning everything. We have 2 rooms and sometime we split so we can do the job faster. At the end we all meet again in the main studio to mix it also giving the last listening checking out everything.”

What is the current Top 10 you are spinning…

1) Daddy’s Groove vs Nari & Milani – Big Love To The Bass

2) Dirty Vegas – Setting Sun – Daddy’s Groove Remix

3) Nicky Romero ft. Anouk – Feet On The Ground

4) David Guetta & Kaz James – Blast Off

5) Cid & Mednas – Ill Behavior

6) Otto Knows – Parachute

7) Nervo & Duane Harden – Sunshine Thrue Rain Clouds

8) Don Diablo – Knight Time

9) Gus Gus – Crossfade

10) Coldplay – Midnight – Kygo Remix

Away from Ibiza, where are some of the big parties you are looking forward to this summer?

“Definitely Global Gathering and Tomorrowland will be electrifying.”

A quote from a big DJ this week…”“A DJ has to have a piss every time before he goes on the decks, and if somebody tells me that’s not nerves they are full of shit.” – another great quote from a fellow DJ. So, do you still get nervous before DJing?

“Usually we are not nervous, but of course it depends – maybe to go to toilet before to play is better anyway!”

The Miami WMC must seem like a million years ago now. What are some of your big memories from Miami from you?

“Personally (Carlo) my first time at WMC was 3 years ago, I went there just for fun and I was really lucky to meet David Guetta. We spent a lot of time listening to new music and we had a lot of fun in his room. It was a crazy experience. I also went to the best party of my life: SHM live.”

How does this equate to the ADE conference in The Netherlands, does more work get done in the Dam?

“ADE is different, it is more dedicated to the pure business, but it’s a great opportunity to meet everybody and maybe to arrange new collaborations etc.”

Another big quote from a superstar DJ…“I believe true DJing is actually an art, but it’s a dying art, as everyone is pushing the sync button…it’s a real shame when you see a ‘DJ’ plug his laptop in and call this DJing. Music will always evolve but sometimes not in the best way.” What are your thoughts on that?

“I think that now it is very different from the past, now your talent is more in what you produce and when you are live it is important what you play and above all when you play it.”

Throw some names at us, some up and coming producers we should be looking out for this summer…

“I think John Christian is really talented and of course keep an eyes on our guys Cryogenix and Mindshake. They will rock for sure!”

What is coming out next from you studio wise?

“We are working on a lot of stuff at the moment; we just released a nice remix for our friends Dirty Vegas on their brand new single “Setting Sun” and at the beginning of August we’ll release a crazy track with Cryogenix. After that we’ll release our new vocal “Pulse”, in our opinion it is one of our best songs ever!”

When was the last time you had a big disagreement over music – and what was it about?

“We disagree every day my friend, to work as a threesome is interesting…just for that!”

And finally, the World Cup is upon us. Have Italy got an outside chance of winning the trophy, if not, who is your money on?

“Of course we have a chance to win, never forget that we won 4 world cups and we lost other 3 finals, but Brazil and Germany are really really good teams as well.”
