Daniele Davoli

One of our original dance legends still bringing chaos to the dancefloor

Interview : Dan Prince

My old friend Daniele, welcome to DMCWORLD again… where on planet dance are you today?

“Hi Dan, can we say ‘long term friend please, it sounds better’!! I’m in between London and Bath all of the time at the moment…working with Mirko (of BlackBox) and Steve (of Western Disco) on Western Disco’s new Single.”

Well you have done it again! The world’s dancefloors are once again going crazy to your music, this time around it’s your Blackbox remix of Times Square ‘Follow The Sun’, what a summer smash. Talk us through your remix…

“It was Giacomo Maiolini the owner of Time Records in Italy that played me an acoustic version of “Follow the Sun” and asked me for an opinion. It felt very special and realizing the huge potential of the song, I offered my services in producing it.  I just had to do it, no doubts!”

The last 12 months in the UK has seen a resurgence of quality ‘reunion’ style nights. Clockwork Orange kicked it off, you are playing at the Ultra Vegas event in August…what is it about these parties that have caught the public’s attention…?

“It looks like there is a resurgence of 90’s style in general, not just the music, but fashion and lifestyle too; so it seems natural that those promoters and organizations that use to organize great parties and events, find themselves in great demand once again. I’m so looking forward to spin and also perform live with BlackBox at the Ultra Vegas event in August.”

“If you haven’t grown up by the age of 50 – you don’t have to”. Please discuss…

“Well…it’s circumstances and others that force you to grow up, but if you manage to escape it and stay childish, who really would want to grow up?”

What is the current top 10 you are spinning…

ZHU – Faded
Ten Walls – Walking with Elephants
Henry Krinkle- Stay (Kolsch Remix)
Ferdinand Dreyssig & Marvin Hey – Coeur De La Nuit (Pitto remix)
Sharam – Tripy
Terranova – Tourette
Patrick Topping – Forget
Guy Gerber, Dixon – No Distance
Grum – The Touch
Yeah Boy – Can’t Get Enough (Marlon Hoffstadt & HRRSN Remix)

A recent quote from a certain superstar DJ…“I believe true DJing is actually an art, but it’s a dying art, as everyone is pushing the sync button…it’s a real shame when you see a ‘DJ’ plug his laptop in and call this DJing. Music will always evolve but sometimes not in the best way.” What are your thoughts on that?

“I agree with this quote 100%. However I’m afraid this happens because the current “market” is not demanding arty, creative DJs.  it’s the public that decides who’s the biggest club or DJ by buying the tickets. Art should be and is available to everyone, but not everyone understands it!”

What is the record that…
…always reminds you of your childhood?

“John Miles – Music.”

…reminds you of having your heart broken?

“Had a broken heart a few times, but never associated it with a record. I’ve managed to keep music as my recovery medicine Dan.”

…will ALWAYS gets you dancing?

“Daft Punk – Da Funk.”

…you wish you had made yourself?

“Josh Wink – Higher State of Counsciousness.”

Who were the first musicians that you adored growing up?

“Jimi Hendrix, Ritchie Blackmore and The Beatles.”

When was the last time you let your hair down and got trashed in a club?

“Ha ha! You know I lost my hair when I was about 26 years old, so too long ago to remember ha ha ha. However, I rarely get trashed…and when that happens, it is usually behind closed doors! The last time it happened I only remember having an intense conversation with God, but he wasn’t listening…typical!!”

Who are some of the producers you are giving high fives to right now?

“Kolsh, Ten Walls, Solomun…”

Not many people know this, but Daniele Davoli is really good at…

“Very good at improvising….(which I’m told is quite common with Italians). Jack of all trades, master of none, that is me!”

You posted on your Facebook page a few weeks ago…”this is the best fish and chips I have ever had”. Daniele – you have been living in England for years, it has taken you this long to find somewhere good?

“Well, I have had a few very good ones in the past, but this one really was exceptional. It is quite rare for me to be impressed by food eaten in restaurants, but every now and then it happens.”

Your favourite foreign country you love DJing in?

“The UK…always has been…and then Argentina. (Please note: The UK for me is a foreign country).”

The last DJ that blew your mind?

“It has been Timo Maas for quite a long time.”

And finally, what is coming out next from you studio wise?

“Working on Western Disco’s follow up to “The Sun”, then remixing Oakie’s brand new single, which I hope does well because the song is great!”
